Lomita covers 1.9 square miles and is home to 20,256 residents. It's named for the Spanish word meaning “little knoll”. One of Lomita’s most charming landmarks is the Lomita Railroad museum, a small museum in Lomita devoted to the steam-engine period of railroading. Included in Lomita are the neighborhoods of Rolling Ranchos and Lomita Pines, both of which are on the foothills of Palos Verdes.
